Fellow toastmasters,
A. Double celebrations at Miami
More than 20 toastmasters from our District attended the Toastmasters
International Convention at Miami from 22-26 August 2000. Other than the
special edition T-shirts for our delegates, our District came prepared with a
beautiful banner. IPDG Maimunah Natasha, DTM received on behalf of our District
the No.1 award from International President Tim Keck, DTM.
Well done, District 51, all of you deserves the accolades.

C. Like an Olympic Gold Medalist
In a few more days, the long awaited Olympics Games will begin at Sydney. US
Olympic Basketball Coach, Bob Knight believed "the most important single
ingredient to success in athletics or life is DISCIPLINE." Gold medalists are
consistent in their workouts. They practice and work hard, rain or shine.
Two months have passed now. Has your initial excitements of experiencing the
breakthrough in toastmasters worn off? Are we beginning to postpone scheduled
project speeches or to cancel the next Club Executive Committee Meeting?
Stay focused on the Gold Medal at the end of our race on 30 June 2001. Our
"workout schedule" must be followed every month, every week and every day to be
effective. Our schedules need to be organised to include time for our family,
career and friends, as well as toastmasters. Have a winning game plan!
Be like the Olympic Gold Medalist. Stay disciplined and we will experience the
breakthrough in our personal lives. When we focus on Distinguished, our members
will benefit from the communication training, and experience the breakthrough in
their lives.
D. Communications
Our very first issue of the District Newsletter titled "Break Through 51" is out
from the press during mid-August. Each Club receives 7 copies for Club
Officers. Make copies or circulate (reading-list) the newsletters to your club
members where necessary. A big thank you to DPRO Tham Chee Wah and his team
members for making this breakthrough in the editorial efforts as well as the
mammoth distribution of the newsletter to our wide-spanning district.
This newsletter belongs to all of us. Write about the happenings at your
community, about success stories, about mentors who made a difference in your
lives...and send your contributions to our DPRO at cwtham@pc.jaring.my.
