The highlight of the day was the Golden Gavel Luncheon. The event began with
the parade of the Distinguished District Governors for 1999-2000. Our District
51 was the President's Distinguished District and was represented by IPDG
Maimunah Natasha DTM.
The 2000 Golden Gavel recipient was Nido Qubein. He was selected as one of the
Five Outstanding Speakers of 1999 by Toastmasters International. I enjoyed
Nido's view about the journey from success to significance. Nido shared that
success is about happiness while significance is about fulfillment. This is a
timely reminder for our district to move beyond, to strive for significance in
all we do.
The evening was a time to get to know the candidates (for International Director)
through a showcase session. Our Past District Governor Augustine Lee DTM will
be running for this position representing the Overseas Region. The Annual
General Meeting will be held the following day, 25 Aug 2000. On behlaf of the
district, we extend our best wishes to Augustine for his campaign.
