1. Toastmasters International Convention at Anaheim

It is still not too late to make a date with us at Anaheim...give yourself a vacation with a difference! Come celebrate the success of District 51 with the world! Take this opportunity to visit also World Headquarters at Mission Viejo (about 1 to 2 hours drive). And Disneyland (with its newest attraction, California Adventure) is just a stone throw from Hilton Anaheim.

You may have missed the pre-registration, here's what you can do at Hilton Anaheim:

Tuesday 21 Aug:
from 3pm to 5pm, you can start purchasing tickets at Hilton Anaheim ballroom lobby for the Inter-District Speech Contest to be held at 6.30pm same day. DTM Dunstan Chan will be representing District 51, competing with contestants from outside USA (Australia, New Zealand, UK/Ireland, Africa, Philippines). Thereafter at 8pm, will be the dinner for overseas Toastmasters, with District 51 performing a special item. Please locate DG Lilian and LGET Dr John Lau during the contest for more information on the Dinner.

Wednesday 22 Aug:
You may purchase tickets at the ballroom lobby from about noon at Hilton Anaheim. Attending Opening Ceremony and various workshops.

Thursday 23 Aug:
Golden Gavel and campaign for Office, educational workshops

Friday 24 Aug:
Hall of Fame 1.00pm - We will all go up on stage to receive our District awards! A special commemorative gift from District 51 will be given to all delegates from District 51. Don't miss this exciting moment! Following the award presentation, District 51 will be hosting a celebration with the overseas Toastmasters, with wine and food from 4pm to 8pm at IPDG Christopher Teo's room (check out Hilton reception for room number).

Saturday 25 Aug:
World Championship of Public Speaking - witness it "live"!

2. DISTRICT 51 BREAKTHROUGH AWARDS

District 51 has retained our No.1 spot in the world due to our dedicated members. Please help us to recognise them by submitting their names for the Breakthrough Awards. The submission deadline was 15 July - it has now been extended to 12 August 2001.

Here is a recap of some of the Breakthrough Awards which will be presented at our next Semi-Annual Convention at Kuching. Qualifying period: 1 July 2000 to 30 June 2001

Eligibility: All Toastmasters of good standing who are members of Toastmasters clubs in District 51.

Purpose: To recognise outstanding dedication and leadership towards excellence in Toastmasters.

Announcement: by 15 August 2001

Honour: to be presented at Semi-annual Convention, Nov 2001, Kuching

*** SPEECHCRAFT BREAKTHROUGH AWARD
For outstanding dedication as Speechcraft coordinators or assistant coordinators during the term 2000-2001 (must be a coordinator for minimum of one Speechcraft during 2000-2001). All coordinators and assistant coordinators will receive a special certificate. We will select a winner from each Division for conducting the most Speechcraft sessions for roles as a coordinator or assistant coordinator.

Note: Need to submit the speechcraft workshops' dates(or month), and your role as a co-ordinator or assistant co-ordinator to Christopher Teo by 15 July 2001 (extended to 12 August). If you know of anyone who have done above, you may also submit the names of your member on his or her behalf.

Club Officers - please review your members who have achieved their CTMs and ATMs. You may like to ask them who their mentors are and submit the mentors' names to be recognised. Or if you have achieved a CTM or ATM last term (1 July 2000 to 30 June 2001), you may also submit the name of your mentor to recognise him or her.
